USER STORY
The portfolio I want to have should explains my character, common interests, expertise and ambition. For who am I making a portfolio. For future employers and the rest of the world who shares my interests. In the following section I will explain how these people might look at my portfolio, what they want to know, and how they can become your future client.

User profile: the future employer
What does my future employer wants to know?
The type of design projects I have done before. The projects should be presented in a way that is explains my current capability in conceptual, architectural, and technical thinking. The methods and techniques I use for visualization and drawings are very important.
How can I present it and how does he look at it?
First of all the portfolio will be a hardcopy. The type of designs should be organized in order of themes. Each project is explained by using the following steps : visualization, diagrams of concept, plans and sections and detailing. The way of presenting is the most important one. It explains your personality. In my way it will be a simple layout with not too much pictures incl. Crowded pages are confusing and missing the point. The graphics used explains my way of working. If I place myself in the position of the employer I would like to know on what level I participated on each project. Did I do it on my own or in a team, and if so what was my part in it .

User profile: the client
People who want to hire me, might know not much about architecture. So the portfolio emphasizes on the visual part. The visualization of previous projects are in this case important. It is very important to know for a client what my skills are, when it comes to executing a project.
How can I present it and how does they look at it?
It is about search and be searched. Some people come to you because they were advised by people I know. For those type of client a hardcopy in an original way should do the trick(postcard with your project or a small booklet). Nowadays the most important way to get a client when you`re small in business is the internet. Nice (updated)pictures in order of themes gives a good view of my design skills. Very important for small assignments is the fact that people start looking for an architect in Google. Using the correct keywords are very important when you want to be searched.

Attracting users by my common interests.
Most of the architects have a website which only contains professional based information. It`s a one way interaction. You need specific information if you want to visit their site. I would like a website which contains divers subjects not directly related to architecture. But architecture should have the upper hand in the site because it`s my profession. Well formulated keywords describing my interests can give many hits on Google, so in the end people end up looking on my architecture portfolio without purpose. Adding a help me section where people can ask questions is a way to get trusted by people( networking). By exposing the real me on the net even a future boss can see what my other qualities are.

  1. Try to write just the user story and not to mix it with your own desires/wishes and questions. Place yourself in the position of the user and look at your own portfolio (or somebody else's): what would you want to see?
